Why to Support New Hope Schools?

New Hope Schools is combination of two schools: New Hope Primary and New Hope Secondary School also known as American Friends Academy. The New Hope Primary School formerly known as Mabior Primary School was rebuilt in 2008 as the results of 2007 incident when school building’s wall collapsed and wounded 17 students, killed a teacher and 4 students. Although the school building is not like other newly constructed schools, it is safe for children and teachers now.  The school was shut down for nearly a year. With Dominic Diing effort to raise fund through AID and CARE and its partners, the school was rebuilt and reopened in 2008 and has provided education access to over 3,000 students. The school level runs from grade 1 to 8 plus 9 and 10 grades of secondary school level.

Conditions in Hand

New Hope Primary School's building has been shared between primary school pupils and secondary school students because there is no other building for secondary schools grades.

New Hope Primary School has two blocks each with 5 classrooms. It runs from 8am to 2:3pm for primary level and from 3pm to 6 pm for secondary school students.

New Hope Primary is a small remote village school with a large number of students.  Each classroom hosts nearly 100 children. The school is located in one of the war torn villages of Mabior, South Sudan. By running this school, we have learned a lot of feelings from children, parents, donors, and partners and that is rewarding success and overwhelming need for more education opportunity for children in the villages and especially secondary school in the village.

As of today, we are raising financials to build a dormitory high school in a village of Makuac (about 50 or 60 miles away from Mabior village).

An estimate cost for buiding a secondary school is $ 400,000. Did you just ask  why is it expensive? It is not typically expensive, but if you think so, here are reasons why:

- If we manage to build it, it will be the only school excited among 10 populated villages; therefore, we are building 32 school building  that will allow about 2000 students enrollment. Building one classroom cost between 10,000 and 12,000 dollars. We estimated our classroom cost $ 10,000.

- If we build it, American Friends Academ School (AFAS) will be secondary school with girls and boys dormitory which will allow students coming across the whole state of Northern Bhar El Ghazal and country as whole as well. Students will not be worried where to stay for a semester. Each dormitory costs between $8,000 and $11,000.00

-If we build it, AFAS will be only school with library and laboratory. Therefore, quality education will be provided.

- Because we need our donors and volunteers in the United States to see our work annually, we need to build our Guest house where they will stay upon the visit to school. This building costs more than $80,000.00
