Home      What We Do      Building Secondary School

Together, we can bring most needed education to where children extremely have limited access to education.

"Education transforms lives and it is a war number 1 killer" said Dominic Diing, former lost boy of Sudan

For most of Africa's children, education represents the only way out of a life of poverty. Across the continent, millions of families currently subsist on less than $1.00 a day. Only children who can read, write and do arithmetic can hope to get better paying jobs when they grow up. Southern Sudan has the worst or highest illiteracy in the world. 92 % is considered illiterate with 99 % girls or women are the highest stacks of illiteracy.  By building a secondary school by 2012, we sets a goal to put 6000 children for a secondary education by 2015.

As you may know, building a secondary school is not an easy job. However, we surely feel confident that our energy, time, and your dollar will automatically build this secondary school. Below are basics plans and opportunities you can make to build this school:

The Plans

We are building the restoration process and rebuilding hope in South Sudan by starting a primary and secondary school that will equip children with the necessary tools to break the cycle of poverty and illiteracy. The New Hope schools project is our first undertaking, and we are extremely excited about it.

Phase 1: Buying land or Land Donation.

Generosity belongs to every person whether you are poor or rich. The people of Makuac village have already donated  free land in which New Hope Secondary School, which will be built in it. What is next?

Phase 2: Build

We've got land - now what is next?

Now we build a school. In order to do this we are going to need your help. We need to raise $125,000 to start the building process and a total of $400,000 for the entire school to be completed. This construction stage of development, Phase 2, will proceed as follows:

  • Clearing the land, probably by hand laborers with machetes
  • Constructing a fence around the property
  • Laying the foundations for the different buildings
  • Digging and constructing a well
  • Installing electricity and hopefully getting Internet access
  • Building each separate classroom, dormitory building, lunchroom, meeting room, etc.

The money will be used for the construction of 3 central school buildings or blocks – 3 classrooms, teacher’s quarters, International Guests House, and a community building - digging a borehole, dormitories and showers for the girls and boys restrooms and kitchen.

Opportunities are MANY!

As this process unfolds, we will continue our planning and fund raising here in the United States. We'll need your help, though, to make it all happen. Here are some specific ways you can help:

v   Host a fundraising party at your church, schools, clubs, restaurants etc. (we will supply you with all the necessary marketing material for the event: brochures, video, pictures etc.)

v   Have a garage sale, with proceeds to benefit New Hope Schools

v   Make a direct donation to New Hope Secondary School

v   Spread the word to family, friends, or co-workers who may be interested in helping out or hosting a party themselves.

v   Volunteer. We always need an extra set of hands for our events and fund raising efforts.

v   Request a speaker: We have very motivational and inspirational speakers

If you have an idea for a fun or unique event that you'd like New Hope Schools to be a part of we'd love to hear from you.

Strategies

AID and CARE is collaborating with local government officials, NGOs and communities to build school, clinics, and water facilities that offer a safe place where children can learn, live and have access to clean water, balanced daily meals, and sanitation facilities.

We are focusing on helping the most disadvantaged – orphans, children living in extreme poverty, war, effects, hunger and disaster.  Statistics show that most girls in the area do not have the same chance of graduating when compared to the boys in their area. We intend to break that cycle by building a mixed boarding school.

Due to the fact that we have not achieved fundraising goals, we extend school building by June 2012. We aim to begin building foundation of mixed boarding school with two dorms. Sustainability and growth potential are key elements of the AID and CARE school campaign. We will work to set up the foundation for the school, and with time local people will eventually take over responsibility for maintaining and running it. You can help us empower Southern Sudan children to take control of their future.

To achieve our goals, we need to raise $400,000. The money will be used for the construction of 32 classrooms, teacher’s quarters, International Guest building community building, dormitories, restrooms and a kitchen. We've already acquired land for our school and started the building process, but we still need funding for the many phases of development to come. We've chosen to tackle this project by breaking it into 3 phases. Phase 1 was to acquire land for our school, and now we are in Phase 2 - which is all about fundraising for the buildings. The third phase will be to complete the building and open school for a long list waiting children.
